“Kaci Pellar and Najaree Nixon staffed [DDP’s] booth, which offered resources on voting access as well as how to report circumstances that could be improved for those with disabilities.

‘We make sure spaces are accessible,’ Nixon said. 'We go to city council meetings and local events to let people know just because we have disabilities, doesn’t mean we don’t matter.’

The group also does workshops for local businesses to encourage them to be more accessible, as well as working with individuals to ‘teach people how to advocate for themselves.’

'I grew up in a family full of disabled people, and I worked in hospice,’ Pellar said. 'I know the day to day struggle to access care and to deal with the health care system and health insurance. I wanted to do something to make things better.’” – Oakland County Times
